Rebel Soul Beanie

2–3 minutes

If you’ve ever stumbled upon one of my previous blogs (which I really hope you haven’t), you would have seen post after post of self-drafted hat “patterns.” I recently came across a few of those hats and not one had a great fit. They were too big and had poor shaping in the crown. My knitting skills have improved since then, and there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way: leave the pattern making to the pros! I might consider myself professional enough to make a pattern in the future, but until then I’m happy to enjoy a pattern like this one.

The Rebel Soul Beanie, by Veronika Lindberg, has a great fit and a contemporary, yet classic look that I really love. I made mine out of Concept by Katia Cotton-Merino wool. I bought it on sale from a ‘going out of business’ sale at a local yarn shop, and I wish I had bought every ball they had. It’s that good! I will definitely pick up more of this soft and cozy yarn in the future.

I made an accidental adjustment to this pattern by using a worsted instead of DK yarn (I actually thought the Concept yarn was DK – oops). The only other adjustment I made was only knitting two of the three rib cuffs, so the cuff only folds over once instead of twice. I only bought two balls and I was really concerned that I’d run out of yarn. In the future, I’d add another 5 rounds to the hat to accommodate my bigger-than-average head. There’s no nice way to say that, is there? I don’t love showing my face in photos, but I wanted to show the hat on – so here we go:

And here’s a look at the crown shaping. I figured propping the beanie on my hand would be the easiest way to show it.

Overall, I really adore this hat and will definitely make another. It’s a really warm, cozy and stylish piece. You can’t really ask for more!

Happy making,

Jackie

[…] This was a quick make out of necessity (it’s been COLD here in Toronto). I had some beautiful Concepts by Katia yarn that I was itching to turn into a warm hat, and this one fit the bill. I wrote all my thoughts down in this blog post. […]
