Summer 2023 Makes

3–5 minutes

Not that anyone was chomping at the bit to read about my summer makes, but I decided to take a little break from posting in July and August. I thought it would be best to group everything together into one big post, although there’s definitely enough for two. I really wanted to slow down this year and be more mindful of what I was making, and I do feel like I’ve done that to an extent. Everything (except for one make that I’ll get to later) is useful and will get a lot of wear.

I’ve probably said this before, but I never used to knit in summer. Come May, the knitting needles went away and I couldn’t even think of touching yarn. Something changed this year as I could stop knitting – it’s definitely the theme of my summer makes. Get ready for a whole lotta fibre.

Pattern: Musselburgh Hat

Designer: Ysolda Teague

Made: June 3 – July 12

I wrote a dedicated blog post for this one, so I won’t go into too much detail, but the Musselburgh hat has quickly become one of my favourite patterns. I’ve even made another to share in my fall makes. I absolutely love the construction of this hat, including endless rows of stockinette in the round. It kept me busy on car rides, while reading, watching TV… I’ll be making quite a few more of these!

Pattern: Mini Mock Neck Tank

Designer: Jessie Maed Designs

Made: July 13-31

This next make was a bit out of my comfort zone. I’ve noted my thoughts on Ravelry and in a blog post if you’d like to take a peek. Overall, I still feel like this one is a little short and on the small side. Next time, I’ll make sure I have more yarn on hand and size up by one. I still love it, but it’s going to be a bit tricky to style.

Pattern: Everyday Socks

Designer: Petite Knit

Made: June 19 – August 3

I also finished a pair of socks. This pattern is tried and true, and it’s pretty much the only one I go to for socks. I have another pair on the needles right now – they’re the perfect commuting project as they take up almost no space.

Pattern: Donny Shirt

Designer: Friday Pattern Company

Made: August 7 & August 10 – 11 (respectively)

In August, I became a bit obsessed with the Donny Shirt and made two in quick succession. I love the first one, and have already worn it a few times. The second… well… that’s the one I don’t quite know what to do with. I made it for a vacation, but I didn’t even pack it. Honestly, it gives “I work at the White Lotus circa season 1” vibes and I can’t get past it. I’ll put it away for next year, but it might be made into doll clothing. Speaking of:

Pattern: Jean Sweater

Designer: Dan El Designs (Via Pixie Faire)

Made: August 24 – 25

My toxic trait is diving headfirst on an idea as soon as it pops into my head. I can’t relax until I see it through. In August, it was making a full wardrobe for the 18” dolls I plan to gift my daughter for Christmas. I’ve lost steam on this project considerably, but I did make this cute sweater. I have another on the needles to (hopefully) share in the fall.

Pattern: Rosenlund Top

Designer: Sari Nordlund

Made: June 21 – August 31

Last, but certainly not least (because it was a lot of work) is the Rosenlund Top. I dedicated a full blog post to this one, because it deserved it. There is a lot of cabling and lace work that makes this an intermediate pattern, and it’s definitely not a TV knit. I’ll make a few changes if I make this again, but I still consider it a success.

If you’re still here, thank you for making it to the end of this long post. There are a lot of places where you can spend your time, so even a minute on my blog is much appreciated.

Happy making,

Jackie
