Oolong Tank

2–3 minutes

Hot off the needles, I present to you the Oolong Tank – one of my favourite knitting projects to date. As soon as I slipped this on, I felt like I had taken a new step in my knitting abilities. I loved how it fit and could envision so many outfits right away. Before I gush on, let’s dig into the pattern.

The Oolong Tank, by Aimee Sher, is a vest-style tank top worked bottom up. It features beautiful lace paneling on the front and is finished with i-cord on the neckline. It comes in a large range of sizes, up to a circumference of 168cm (67.25”). I made size C, as I didn’t want it to be oversized, and 39.25” is a few inches bigger than my bust measurement. For both sewing and knitting, I always look at the finished garment sizes to determine which size I should make.

I found this pattern using Ravelry advanced search when I was trying to use up some fingering-weight yarn in my stash. I only had 2 skeins (760.0 meters) of cotton Nako Solare yarn in the colour Rose Taupe, which I had bought last year. This pattern was perfect for the small amount I did have, as I only used 153g of the 200g. You can view more details about this make on my Ravelry page.

My favourite feature of this pattern is the lace panels on the front. It can be difficult to stay motivated on a knit garment (even one without sleeves), but the lace kept it interesting. Because it’s worked in the round, you aren’t left working rows and rows of stockinette without something to mix it up.

I rarely make a project and want to make another right away, but I’m very tempted with this tank! It certainly inspired me to try other knit vests for the summer and winter. There are so many ways to style this type of garment, and I’ll be giving them all a try over the next few months. If you’re in the market for a quick, skill-building pattern, I strongly recommend this one.

Happy making,

Jackie
