March Makes

3–4 minutes

This is month three of sharing everything I’ve made, and even though I know it doesn’t reach that many people, I love seeing a visual diary of my projects. It keeps me motivated to make more of what I love, while also confronting me with my toxic trait of trying to finish projects as fast as possible. I’m not bragging (even humbly) when I say that I finish projects quickly. I have a toddler and a full time job, so finishing all these projects usually means that I’m not getting enough sleep. Next month, I’m going to try to slow down and really savour each project. With that said, I still want to chat about everything I made this month – even if it was too fast.

Pattern: Mouse

Designer: Studio Seren

Started: March 2

Finished: March 4

I have no business making more dolls, but Studio Seren’s patterns get me every time. I even have another two in the works for April. I might have to start selling them soon, simply so I have an excuse to make more. I use the word “sell” loosely. They will likely be hanging around my condo for the foreseeable future. I wrote a bit more about this project in this blog post.

Pattern: Bestie the Bunny Snuggler

Designer: The Cosy Stitch

Started: March 3

Finished: March 4

This is a perfect example of finishing projects too quickly. I couldn’t wait to see it come together, so I stayed up far too late – but I will say that it came together pretty quickly. Double crochet in such a chunky yarn works up in no time. I’ll be giving this to my daughter on Easter, along with a whole bunch of handmade things. Are they really for her benefit or mine? Makers will know the truth.

Pattern: Every Which Way Pinafore

Designer: Duchess and Hare

Started: March 12

Finished: March 13

Even though we don’t have exciting plans for Easter, I couldn’t resist the chance to make my daughter a fun dress to twirl around in. When I saw this fabric at a local store (Fabricland, if you’re in Canada), I couldn’t resist. Unfortunately the pattern isn’t sold anymore, but I gave an alternative in this blog post

Pattern: Everyday Socks

Designer: Petite Knit

Cast On: February 7

Cast Off: March 15

I always have a pair of everyday socks on the needles these days. This pair actually started as a “failed” project that I had to go back to basics on:

I hate to use the word fail, because I will definitely try this pattern again. It’s self-drafted using a chart from The Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida. Unfortunately, all of the intricate stitch work was completely lost with the marled yarn, so I pulled it back and knit a simple pair instead.

Pattern: Punch Needle Kit

Brand: Kaiser Craft

Started: March 12

Finished: March 13

Last and least, I have this punch needle project using a kit I picked up at Homesense. Punch needling was perhaps the only crafty fibre art that I hadn’t tried, and unfortunately it isn’t for me. While I do love the final product, I found the whole process oddly stressful. I powered through this project just so I could be done.

Phew – another big round up! If you’re still reading, thank you. I really appreciate anyone who stumbles upon my blog and takes the time to read it. I hope you found some inspiration along the way.

Happy making,

Jackie
