As I sit down to write this post, it feels like -8 outside. MINUS EIGHT. I’m so over this crazy cold weather we’ve been having in Toronto, so I’ve started sewing for spring. These two projects are serotonin sewing at its finest – ruffles, bunnies, mice, tiny clothing… What more could you need?
My first big sewing project for spring was this cute ruffled pinafore for my daughter. I used the Every Which Way Pinafore by Duchess and Hare. I never hesitate to link patterns in my posts, but unfortunately the pattern company has since closed up shop. I also love this pinafore from Oh Me Oh My, and you could probably tweak it to get a similar effect.
The fabric is a super cute quilting cotton from Fabricland (a staple here in Canada). I popped in for some notions and couldn’t resist the bunnies. I pulled some plain white quilting cotton from my stash to compliment main fabric.
Next up, we have these adorable mice. When I was a kid I loved the Jillian Jiggs books. In one book, she makes hundreds of pigs from old stockings – and I feel like I could totally go down that path with these mice. In fact, I might start making them to sell at some point soon. My daughter doesn’t need more of these dolls and I need a solid excuse to make more!
The pattern is by Studio Seren – one of my favourite pattern makers. I really can’t recommend her patterns enough. From the huge variety of cute clothing to the easy and well-written patterns, they really are the best.
