Today I’m excited to share two makes from one brand: Friday Pattern Company. I’ve been eager to talk about both of them for a while, but I wanted to see how they wore before going too in-depth. Well, that ship has definitely sailed and I can’t wait to dive in!
First up: the Ilford Jacket. I made this jacket back in the fall and I have to say that I was really nervous to get going. This was my first jacket and the fabric I had selected was so lovely – a bull denim from Blackbird Fabrics. Of course, once it was done, I felt so silly for fearing this pattern. Friday Pattern Co. patterns are notoriously well-written and helpful. I’m so pleased with the final result:

I lined the jacket with a flannel fabric, which I purchased at Joann in the summer of 2022 (what a great time to buy flannel, eh?). As you might have assessed from that last sentence, I’m Canadian, so a trip to Joann is a rare treat. The fabric isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s a cozy addition to this jacket. I was actually able to wear it well into November.
While I’m here talking about one Friday Pattern Co. pattern, I thought I’d mention another: the Elysian Bodysuit. When this pattern made the rounds on YouTube and Instagram, I definitely thought it wasn’t for me. As a relatively tall person, I’ve never owned a bodysuit… but isn’t that a great reason to make my own?

I started with this grey version from a beautiful bamboo jersey, and I have to admit that I made some pretty silly mistakes with my overlocker. I managed to fix most of them and ended up with a great wearable toile. For my modifications, I lengthened the lower body and back pieces by 3″ and added snaps at the bottom. I also had to draft a small piece to attach the snaps to. I liked this version so much that I made two more.

The green version shows off the detailing on bodice, which makes it a little more special than your average plain bodysuit. This pattern has me dreaming of other tops I can turn into a bodysuit. By adding snaps to the bottom, it opens up a realm of possibilities.
I really recommend these patterns and Friday Pattern Co. as a whole. I’d love to try the Heather Blazer next!
Happy making,
Jackie
