One of my favourite things about knitting is turning a piece of yarn into a wearable garment. It really feels like magic. Of course, this kind of magic takes a lot of time, patience and skill. Today I’m sharing one of my favourite knits: The Lucca Cardigan by Knit Purl Girl.

I’ve been knitting since my second year of college, but I didn’t have the guts to try a sweater until two years ago (let’s just say that time frame isn’t small). It takes a while to build up the skills and confidence to tackle a bigger knitting project, and I really have no regrets. It would have been a waste of materials to try any sooner than I did.
I used a wonderful 100% wool yarn from The Knitting Loft, located here in Toronto. I needed 5 balls of Gilliatt de rerum natura to achieve a size medium (the colour is argile – if you’re curious). Honestly, this yarn is a bit itchy, but not too bad. I love the rich texture and natural feel, as well as the “bounciness” of the fabric.

Now on to the pattern: I loved it! It was simple, worked up relatively quickly and has the most beautiful texture. The knit and purl rows create a stitch that looks way more complicated than it is, but it’s still a “tune out and watch Netflix” sort of knit.

I definitely added WAY more buttons than necessary, but I’m going to call it a design choice. I almost never close my cardigans anyways! Fit-wise, I like how it’s not oversized and is a bit cropped. I might size up to a large for future versions and lengthen both the body and arms (I’m 5’9 for reference), but it’s nice to have different options for my wardrobe. Overall, I really recommend this pattern by Knit Purl Girl. It was a fun one!
Happy making,
Jackie
